Me

Katherine Mather - Counsellor
she/her/hers
Registered Member MBACP (Dip. Couns)

I am a qualified and experienced integrative counsellor. I understand that the complexity of the world today can be a challenge, presenting issues for us both as individuals and within the family. Counselling offers a confidential and private space in which to deal with our issues, whether these result from sudden life events or have evolved over time.

I work individually with children (age 9+), young people and adults. I am able to bring my experience to work effectively across a range of areas, including: anxiety, depression, anger, grief and loss, relationships, gender and identity issues, illness, life stages, low self-esteem, low self-confidence, education and workplace difficulties.

Working Together

When you get in touch to enquire about counselling sessions, I can be available to speak by telephone for up to 20 minutes without charge if you wish.  When working together, we regularly review how sessions are going to ensure they continue to be helpful in meeting your needs.

As we explore the issues you face, I will help you to make sense of your thoughts, feelings and behaviours and to understand patterns or habits which impact your life. The increased insight you gain can lead to better self-understanding and self- acceptance, helping you to make the choices and changes which are right for you - to move your life forwards.

I work from a recognised person-centred core which holds key the importance of being listened to in confidence, understood and accepted. I am trained to safely integrate ideas and strategies from other recognised therapeutic approaches and will do so to ensure that our work together is appropriate for you.

Appointments & Fees

I can offer time-limited counselling or longer term work. Appointments are usually attended weekly, in a regular timeslot and each session lasts for 50 minutes.

Each counselling session costs £50 and payment is by bank transfer or cash.

Me

My in-person appointment slots are on a Wednesday and Friday, afternoon to early evening. These take place in a comfortable and accessible ground floor therapy room at the Tashi Centre in Dursley with free public car parking close by.

Remote appointments via Zoom or the telephone can be arranged at other times. Please note - there are some additional considerations to bear in mind if you are thinking about remote counselling, therefore I would discuss these with you at the time of your enquiry to ensure this option feels the appropriate choice for you.

I do require you to provide a minimum of 24 hours’ notice of a cancellation or the full fee will be payable. Where possible I try to offer an alternative appointment during the same week.

Notification of a cancellation can be made by call, text or email.

Contact

I can be contacted by email at khmather@protonmail.com or call/text on

Experience

I started my private counselling practice in 2017, working in-person and via online video and telephone. Alongside this, I have also worked in a range of other settings including being a member of the counselling team at a Gloucestershire based counselling charity (2013 – 2023), as well as being employed as a senior counsellor at another counselling agency (2016 – 2020) working with 9-21 year olds.

In addition to this, I am a tutor on a CPCAB Level 4 Diploma in Therapeutic Counselling for Counselling Adults, Children and Young People. Previously, I have also taught on both CPCAB Level 5 Certificate and Diploma courses in Counselling Children & Young People.

I also work as a clinical supervisor both privately and for external agencies, supervising both qualified and trainee counsellors who work with young people and/or adults.

Me

I am a Registered Member of the British Association for Counselling and Psychotherapy (BACP) and work in accordance with the BACP Ethical Framework for the Counselling Professions.

Certificate in online and telephone counselling

I take care to ensure that my knowledge and training is kept up to date and I regularly undertake continued professional development through training courses and self-study. I have undertaken specific post-qualifying training to work therapeutically with children and young people.
